Basics On Business Promotional Product

By Marissa Velazquez

Business promotional product, as well as gifts, swag, items and merchandise, is used for the purpose of communication and marketing campaigns. Typically, these items are branded. There are many different products that are employed for the purpose of promoting a company, corporate image, event or brand.

Most products of this kind are used solely for promotion, hence the name. For this reason, they usually feature details about what is being promoted, for example: logo, slogan, event name, company name. Most businesses will choose products used and desired by a big population, as well as items used on a frequent basis. An example of this would be a coffee mug. Many people drink from these types of cups on a daily basis and would constantly be reminded of that which was promoted.

There are multiple ways that these products are given to consumers. They might be sold at special events or via a store of the company. Sometimes they are given away for free to consumers who attend conferences, trade shows and other events. This is part of the guerrilla marketing strategy. Companies may also offer these are part of giveaways, exhibitions or during launches of new products.

It is believed that this was originally introduced hundreds of years ago during an election. That is, during the 1700s when George Washington was running for president. The product his people gave out was commemorative buttons that were meant to promote him. At the close of the nineteenth century, there was a development of an industry specifically for promotional products. Companies around the world use these in the modern day.

Often, distributors of such goods sell in bulk. Most of the products manufactured for this purpose are inexpensive and small in size. Higher-quality goods are available for this purpose as well and are usually given to celebrities or public figures at major events. Usually goodie bags are filled with perfumes and colognes, as well as electronics and other items. The businesses that provide these do so with the goal to get the famous people to use and enjoy or promote their product. It is also beneficial if they can be photographed with it.

In general, the goal of these is to bring about awareness of a brand. Sometimes they can also be used for building traffic, marketing research and getting new customers. Promotional products have been known for their application when it comes to safety education, dealer and distributor programs, non-profit organizations, employee service awards, incentive programs and more. Charities, schools and other such non-commercial organizations might use this as a way to collect money for a campaign or cause.

The items used will differ depending on many factors, including target audience, objective and company. There are people who, as a hobby, collect these promo items. Not every product that is made for this purpose is one that will be used every day. Still, it is ideal when these are frequently used goods so that the user can be constantly reminded.

Business promotional product is often employed for reasons related to brand awareness and marketing. Many times these items include a marker of identity, such as name, symbol or logo. Those who manufacture or distribute these customizable goods often sell in bulk quantities.
