Finding The Most Efficient And Humane Wildlife Removal

By Essie Osborn

By the time you notice that a wild animal has moved into your home it is usually a clear sign that there is more than one of them to deal with. Trying to handle the problem on your own can be dangerous to both you and the animal. Whether the animal in question is a rat or something much bigger like a raccoon you will want to find an expert in wildlife removal to help you.

One of the first things they will do is find the entry to your home that the animal is using. Sometimes there are several places where they are coming into your home and all must be blocked to prevent recurring infestation. This is especially true when dealing with rats or bats. If one entry is blocked they will simply enter through the secondary opening. When denied entry, bats will relocate on their own without you having to take any other action.

Many of the larger pests such as raccoons create damage to your roof and will nest in the insulation. They along with squirrels and rats can chew through wiring in the attic and create a fire hazard. Some of these larger critters also carry diseases that can be transmitted to humans and their droppings can be toxic if left unattended or ignored.

The most common method of removing these pests is by trapping them and relocating them to areas that are set aside for that purpose. There are states on the Eastern side of the country that prohibit relocation of trapped animals. This is especially true in states where there is a high incidence of rabies. It is a preventative act that helps control the spread of this disease.

The specialist may install one way doors that allow animals to exit but not re-enter the residence. This works very well for bat and bird infestation and will solve the problem almost immediately. They may also use scents of other animals to encourage smaller prey animals to leave an area. If a mother squirrel or raccoon smells a danger to her brood they will vacate the area and take them to a safer spot off your property.

You may also experience an animal that has been relocated returning to your house. This can happen with raccoons especially. They have been known to find their way back after being taken over fifteen miles away from the capture spot. When this happens it is important to have repaired any entrance spots that they may have had access to. Companies that remove the animals can also help with clean up and repairs that need to be done.

The reasons for this problem can easily be resolved by the home owner. By keeping brush away from all buildings and pruning branches of trees at least six feet above the ground you will keep many wild visitors away. You should also never feed your pets or any other animals outside of your home. The food will attract every four legged critter in the neighborhood.

With civilization encroaching further into areas where these animals live the threat of them moving into your space becomes more apparent everyday. These services are a welcome and important addition to cities everywhere.
