Anchorage is the capital of Alaska and is the place where most flights land. From there it takes just three hours by car to the region of Kenai. The lodge is located close to the Sterling Highway and so is easy to find. Although the peninsula is close to the largest city in Alaska it feels very remote. There are no large cities and lots of wilderness.

In summer there are plenty of visitors around to take advantage of the amazing fishing opportunities. All five species of salmon can be caught in the area. There are two runs of King Salmon with the biggest fish being caught in the second run which starts around the middle of July. The world record King was hauled in there, weighing ninety seven pounds.

There are five species of salmon in the river so plenty of opportunities for great fishing present themselves all through the summer. June is the best time to catch red salmon. These are the species with the highest monetary value as they are preferred for cooking and smoking. Silver salmon also run twice, in August and October. Permits are needed for fishing and are available in many shops in the vicinity or on the internet.

The local town is called Soldotna and is close to the lodge. It is the regional capital and has all the facilities for anglers and tourists. There are plenty of shops and restaurants along with places to get information on the local area with museums and visitors centers.

The wider area of the peninsula is perfect for nature lovers and sports people. Local rivers and fjords provide a number of exciting kayaking and white water rafting opportunities. Hiking trails cross the landscape and can be used for mountain biking and cross country running. Local wildlife is spectacular with bears, elk, moose and lots of birds.
