The Old Testaments Prophecies About Jesus

By Carl Morris

Christians believe Jesus to be the son of God and was sent to the world to save them from their sins. They believing that his coming was known for hundreds of years before he actually descended. Christians believe that a lot of prophets in the old testament foresaw his coming. Below are some of the prophecies about Jesus.

It was predicted that all the nations of the world would be blessed through the lineage of Abraham. This is why Abraham is considered the father of all nations. This is according to Genesis 12:3. This prophecy did come to pass in the book of Acts 3:25-26 in the new testament, which states that all of the offspring of the prophets will be blessed through the covenants their fathers made with God.

God blessed Abraham with a son at the age of 100 years. His son was named Isaac and through him, the whole world would be blessed. Sure enough, as the generations continued, there came up king David. He can be traced back to the lineage of Abraham. Jesus was referred to as the son of David, the son of Abraham in Matthew 1:1.

Another fascinating thing about Jesus Christ is that he was born of a virgin woman. This was prophesied by Isaiah. This is as indicated on the book of Isaiah 7:14. Like many other prophecies, this came to pass hundreds of years later. The angel Gabriel came with good news to Mary that she would conceive a child through holy spirit..

It was foretold that at some point, the Messiah would go to Egypt. This is written in the book of Hosea 11.1. This happened almost immediately after Jesus was born and the wise men sought him. They asked about him to the then king Herod, who felt threatened by the child and ordered the killing of all baby boys below two years of age. They went back to Israel after Herod died according to matthew2:14-15.

He was born in Bethlehem. Micah 5:2 says that although Bethlehem was one of the smallest among the clans of Judah, there would be a great ruler to come from there. Even when asked, the chief priests and teachers of the law foretold that Son of God was to be given birth in Bethlehem. This is as indicated on the book of Mathew 2:4-6.

After sinning, humans and the serpents were to loathe each other for eternity. God proclaimed that the serpents would always bite the humans heel and the human would always crush the head of the serpent. According to Genesis 3:15. This was at the beginning of time and sure enough, Jesus came to destroy the work of the devil according to 1st John 3:18.

In the olden days, people would take the pure white sheep or goat young ones and offer them as a sacrifice to God. This was their way of trying to do away with their sins. Exodus 12:5. In the new testament, however, Son of God was the lamb without blemishes. He was the ultimate sacrifice and carried all of the man-kinds sins. Hebrews 9:14.
