How to Lookup an Individual's Criminal Record

By Andrea McCormick

If you are concerned about the history of an individual you are associated or dealing with, you may want to seek out their criminal court record to make sure that you are dealing with someone you can trust and be comfortable with. With this record you'll be able to steer your family, your assets and your property out of danger.

Can you search someone's criminal court records? Yes, you can. Since criminal court records are considered public information, anyone can view them at any time.

Imagine that you are planning on hiring a babysitter to look after your kids while you and your spouse are away at work or have to leave the house. You definitely want to know if the person you hire doesnt have any criminal records or a background of theft, kidnapping or child abuse.

You can also lookup your new neighbor if he or she has any criminal records.

It is entirely legal to obtain criminal records just as long as you do not intend to use them for criminal activity yourself, such as blackmailing another person. Under the Freedom of Information Act you are well within your rights to use the information in a criminal record to insure the well-being of you, your family and your interests.

Although it is completely legal to obtain such records, finding them is another thing. It is very hard to find it as records are kept where the case was held. For example, if you are in California, your lookup may turn out nothing if the person you are trying to lookup for criminal records committed the crime in New York.

These are the things that you have to remember when you plan on looking up someone's criminal court history.
