Five Equipment Necessities You Need To Have When MMA

By Teagen James

You have chosen to begin MMA training? Good choice! But you'll need to pick up some necessary equipment. MMA is a laugh but you want to avoid injury and remain safe. The 5 necessary pieces of MMA training equipment are:

Mouth guard

You do not want busted teeth or a spoiled smile. Ironically, a good amount of newbs forget to use a mouth guard before they start coaching. A mouth guard is essential--and potentially plain to most individuals. Sparring matches can occur pretty early in coaching, so be certain to buy your mouth guard right away. It'll defend your pearly whites and the soft tissues around them.

Cup

Few athletes will purposefully strike you in the groin, but accidents occur. So give your groin the protection it requires. This is serious because even an accidental strike to the groin could cause long-standing damage (to say nothing of agony). Be smart, purchase a cup and have some piece of mind during coaching. Hit: a good cup fits comfortably but still allows for easy movement.

Training Gloves

Quality training gloves serve 2 purposes. They shield your hands and they ensure your workout fully exerts you without hazarding injury to anyone (you or your opponent). The padding in the gloves hinders both injury and cramping. Be certain to purchase "training gloves" instead of regular fighting gloves. Training gloves have more padding than fight gloves.

Shorts

Naturally, you already own shorts, but you'll want MMA specific shorts. These shorts will cost you a little more than other shorts but they will also be more relaxed. You'll have a larger range of motion in MMA shorts.

Rashguard

Coaching involves close contact and grappling with opponents. You'll both be sweaty. This situation will result in you feeling really gross and uncomfortable in a regular T-shirt. Avoid discomfort. Purchase a rashguard. Rashguards fit comfortably, direct sweat away, and stretch to allow a complete range of motion.
