Ever thought what it'd be like to live a life free of guilt without the haunting sense of regret and remorse continually lingering in the recesses of your mind? Guilt is a big problem for countless folk and how to deal with guilt is a query asked by many.
Instead of ask how one can deal with their guilt, perhaps a better question would be "How do I get rid of my guilt?" if one actually needs to live life out from under its clutches. Dealing has the logical implication of "getting by" or surviving the situation. It does not resonate with sensations of liberation or liberty. It still implies one is under some sort of burden.
Disposing of guilt is possible , although not through any program, therapy or practice invented by man. Guilt is the result of sin, which is doing, asserting or thinking anything that's in contrast to what God would have us think. That isn't a legalistic lifestyle, but rather selecting to live according to the principles set out in God's Word, which finally leads to real joy, freedom and peace. Living opposite to His Word is sin, which ends up in guilt and thus our thoughts of guilt. It makes very little difference whether one believes in God or not. In the book of Romans, chapter 1, we're told we are designed with an innate awareness of God and His features and attempting to "put a shroud over the truth" will not change it.
The most terrible thing about sin, that will lead to guilt, is that's separates us from God. That separation, if not revived, leads to spiritual death and separation from God forever. The good news , God longs for all damaged relations to be restored and has supplied a way for reconciliation. It occurs when one believes that God sent His sinless Son, Jesus Christ, to die as a sacrifice for their sins and recognizes their need for that sacrifice. Through His death on the cross, Jesus Christ makes it possible for any who believe to receive God's forgiveness of all of their sin, irrespective of how great or little. God alone is able to pardon (officially release from any punishment i.e, eternal death) and forgive all who ask and believe. Once forgiven, we are now not guilty for He forgives our sin and takes away the guilt of it. He does this due to His great love for us and His desire that we live forgiven and free from the guilt that debilitates and weighs us down.
Does that imply we won't continue doing things that may lead to guilt? Absolutely not, but God tells us that when that occurs "If we confess our sins, He's dependable and simply to forgive us our sins and to clean us from all unrighteousness." I John 1:9.
There's no reason for guilt to weigh you down any longer, not when God, the only One with the power to excuse, is ready and waiting and eager to pardon you and set you free.
