Get Rid of Acne with Botox

By Cam A. Lennot

Botox Cosmetic has been approved for cosmetic purposes for the past twenty years. Of course, it is most famously known for reducing lines and wrinkles and has long been the go to product for celebrities seeking a youthful appearance. The newest and most promising area for the use of Botox Cosmetic is for the treatment of acne and for the reduction of pore size.

It's not surprising, for anyone with teenagers, that one of the most commonly occurring skin conditions is acne. It should not come as a shock to you that estimates indicate that 100% of teenagers have at least one acne breakout. The more surprising stat is that, of those teenagers that have some acne issues, a whopping forty percent seek doctor treatment due the severity of the acne. There are very severe forms, like cystic acne. In this instance, the scars can affect an individual for the remainder of their lives. It is thought to result from a combination of factors including excess oil or sebum production, although the exact cause is not known. Contributing factor include ineffective exfoliation resulting in pore clogging, bacterial overgrowth and inflammation.

Botox has been found to be helpful for patients suffering from acne. Injections of the solution just under the skin paralyze the glands, which are the culprits behind oil production. Overall acne severity should see a decrease. And the pore size could be reduced as much as sixty percent. Your physician will inject Botox just under the skin to target the sebaceous glands. This is really the critical point. This is unlike the normal Botox treatment for wrinkles, which tend to target the muscle tissue under the skin.

Ask Your Doctor these Questions

- Are you licensed to administer Botox?

- How long have you been performing Botox and what is the average volume of treatments you perform every year?

- Are there other procedures I should consider rather than Botox?

- What procedures might complement these Botox treatments?

- Are there deals or current specials that I am not aware of?

- Will you walk me through what the procedure day will look like?

Try not to select a Botox doctor solely based on price. After all, this is your face we're talking about. Do you really want the lowest bidder? Getting the best deal is not necessarily a bad thing, especially if it is based on a wide range of criteria. But be sure to do the proper research when selecting a physician.

Botox = No Pain

It's very well known that this is essentially a pain free procedure. And fortunately, the recovery time is practically nothing. This is in sharp contrast to most surgeries. The actual injection is sometimes described as a small pin prick or a mosquito bite. Most patients experience no discomfort at all. Again, the recovery period is non-existent. You can continue on with your regular routine. Patients can go about their planned schedule. You can even schedule an appointment in between errands.
