How To Gain Benefit From Port Charlotte Mental Health Services

By Shanna McNeil

A good mental attitude is vital for living the kind of lifestyle most people endeavour for daily. Port Charlotte mental health provides you with an opportunity to gain a better self awareness of yourself and to discover the reasons you feel the way you do. Therapy such as this is a process of self development and self discovery.

People, who have suffered trauma such as the loss of a loved one whether it was due to a fatal car accident or a drowning at sea, find it difficult to continue with their lives in a functional fashion. Feelings such as anger and depression can continue for years after the fact, leaving a person with feelings of loneliness and abandonment. These are natural feelings to have and experience but left unverbalized can fester with time and incapacitate a person to continue leading a normal healthy lifestyle.

A person may feel resentful even of themselves that they did not do more than they could have to have helped someone drowning at sea. Self blame is something people do a lot and is a self deprecating response to a situation that may have been out of their control. Therapists and councillors are aware of the interplay of emotional dynamics a person is experiencing.

As the saying goes, the truth will set you free, is very much what therapy is all about. It helps us gain a perspective of ourselves and find out truths about our emotions and thoughts. When we do, it is a liberating experience and a person feels a sense of a burden that has been lifted off their shoulders.

A common dynamic which results in internal emotional conflict is the fear of losing your job or occupation. This is a realistic fear but should it become a disproportionate one to the point that a person has panic attacks and elicits signs of extreme anxiety on a physical level such as sweaty palms and visible trembling, this fear has then become a disproportional one. An understanding of the fear itself will assist a person in overcoming it.

Incidences can affect people twenty years later such as a person who has been bitten by a dog at an early age. An intense fear develops after the incident and some never recover and their fear re triggered at the mere sound of hearing a dog bark. Therapy helps you in overcoming these passed fears and anxieties by expressing what happened at the time and reliving it in your memory.

Visions and images of a fateful event such as this can persist for years. Communication is vital in getting through these periods of ones life. Sometimes these traumas are too difficult to communicate and at times other forms of therapy are needed to help individuals progress from disfunctionality to functionality.

It is these two challenges that many cannot cope with alone and using a service such as Port Charlotte mental health can mean the difference to overcoming them and gain a foothold with regard to where a person may find themselves in life. Some may not have friends and family to turn to or be left alone with children to support. Many fall prey to these emotions and many choose suicide as a form of escape. It is unadvisable to do so and to realise that a person has a responsibility to themselves and to those that will come into their life in the future that they can help and relate their times of struggles with.
