Things To Know About UV Curing Systems

By Paula Barron

There are various equipments that can be useful for the reduction of manufacturing costs, and the UV curing systems are one of these. The UV technology has a wide range of application, and can be used on spot or flood lamps, focused beam lamps, conveyors and much more. These types can either be used separately or as components of larger assembly lines.

A first category of UV system is the spot lamps. Very efficient on small areas, these are having the advantage of providing a fast and clean curing. These as working at a very high intensity and this makes them ideal for many industries that are including coating, bonding, sealing or encapsulation operations. Are very efficient on small parts and the process is performed very quickly, in 0.5 to 5 seconds.

The light flood lamp system is coming with a moderate intensity over large areas. This makes them more than ideal for surfaces having a diameter larger than 12.7 mm, or for multiple small parts at the same time. These are usually incorporated in conveyors or various automated assembly systems.

Conveyors are another category of UV light systems. These are advantageous to be used on larger surfaces. To a conveyor can be attached one to maximum four different lamps. The consistent cure time is another benefit, making these ideal to shield operators from the UV light action. Sometimes these can incorporate flood or focused-beam lamps.

Radiometers are devices that are measuring the light intensity of a specific wavelength. As the UV light is not visible, a radiometer can be used with success to measure the intensity of spots, flood lamps, conveyors and others. These special equipments are operating by measuring the light intensity, and expressing the values in UVA. This process is very useful as it maintains a controlled process, provides a worker-friendly environment, and the measurement of light-transmission rates in made through substrates.

One of more of the UV light curing equipments mentioned above can be incorporated in an additional custom equipment. For example the turnkey equipment can be equipped with conveyors, radiometers or various dispensing systems, as time or pressure syringe dispensers, and pressure or valve pot systems. The design of this type can be made according with the scope of use and client's specific needs.

The main benefit that comes with the utilization of a UV light system is the reduction of producing costs. This technology can be used on a large number of products from various industries. Another advantage is the short time required for the curing process, and the reduced exposure time. These products are easy to use components, can be stored for long periods of time in stores, and no specific storage temperature is required.

With more than 30 years of utilization in various industry sectors (electronics, medical, optical, automotive, packaging, etc), the UV curing systems are technologies very well appreciated by manufacturers. These are used not only with the goal of reducing the manufacturing costs, but to obtain high quality products and reduce or eliminate the use of chemicals. All these advantages have lead to a large utilization area.
