Top Considerations With Any Karate Gi!

By David Smith

Before forking out money for a karate gi, in order to maximize the value for money aspect, you should certainly take note of the following factors: Size- Sizes of these uniforms may vary a lot due to different standards applied by different manufacturers. Due to this, a lot of companies have released charts to let you know which uniform you should go for. Some of these charts are detailed enough to match the uniform with your exact weight and height. In the event that you are unable to find a uniform that is of your size, it would be best that you go for a slightly larger size as you might want to wear a sports bra or undershirt when you are training.

Fit- When you put this uniform on pay close attention to the fit. Since you will be performing martial arts training it is important that the fit is loose and comfortable. You should not be restricted with your movements in any way, and you should feel like you are wearing a pair of pajamas. If the gi is restricting at all then you will need a larger size.

Weight of material- These uniforms also come in different weights due to the materials used to make them. While heavier options are generally more durable and could last longer compared to standard uniform types, they come with a higher price tag and might actually restrict certain movements. That said, the heavier options are also usually thicker which help cushion the blows from your opponent.

Price- The price of the uniform will be of concern for a lot of people. The uniforms that are of a better quality are usually priced higher than those of average quality, so you have to be lenient on your budget to get a high quality uniform if that is what you are aiming for. It is also advisable for you to shop online as not only could you potentially save the money spent on the uniforms, there are also generally more options online.

Instructor Requirements- It would be best to consult your instructor before deciding on a karate gi as some instructors have certain requirements when it comes to the uniform worn during training. Some instructors would want certain symbols or maybe the school name to be on the uniform so that might mean that you would have to buy from the school itself. To avoid getting a gi that does not fulfill the standards set out by your school, do talk to your instructor before making your purchase.
