Radon Testing Illinois Step By Step

By Megan Landry

Radon is a neutral and pale gas that comes about as a result of decomposing uranium in soil. This gas is found in high quantities inside homes after it penetrates through structures. It makes its way inside the house through any opening and especially through structures that are built closely to the earth. It is ranked as one of the top causes of lung cancer in the United States. Radon testing Illinois have come up with ways of testing for this poisonous gas as showcase below.

A radon sampling test kit has to be acquired from a reputed dealer who is licensed and accredited. It is very cost effective and user friendly. The minimum sampling period is less than 3 days and afterwards data analysis is done by a reputable lab. The test results are then dispatched back to you and the necessary steps are taken in the event of radon exposure.

You have to ensure that the house is completely secured by closing windows and doors. This can be done for around 12 hrs and then the kit can be put in use. The air inside the house will act as the sampling specimen and therefor careful preparation of the specimen has to be done.

Within the kit, you will find specimen apparatuses inside together with instructions, data sheets, location of the analyzing lab and any invoicing information. Place this separately on a table as you prepare to start the test. Make sure you keep any of the sender information.

The best place to conduct the test would be the undergrounds. We are aiming for the most exposed areas to radon in the house owing to their close proximity to soil. You need an area where the best specimen is assured, in this case being air.

Place the apparatus at least 20 inches from the floor and maintain a distance of 6 inches between them. A tape is recommended to measure so that the distance is accurate. A steel ruler is often the best toll for this job.

The covers of the flasks should then be detached from the flask while being very careful not to interfere with the set up of the flasks. This sampling area should then be cordoned off and the assessment should be left to run its course. There should be no intervention during this time.

After a few days, the samples are ready for radon analysis. Under no circumstance should they be left for more than a week or thereabouts. Throughout the sampling period, windows and door should not be opened extensively; sprays should not be used at all as this will bring about interferences in the data.

Radon testing Illinois is ready for assessment once the minimum time has elapsed. You should fill in the record entry sheets and any cost invoice if provided. The flask should then be closed tightly and sent immediately to the lab for study. You should not delay at home with your testing samples as this will affect the results of your test.
