The first step is to collect the carpets which are to be recycled. The owner can decide to transport them or call the firm to collect. The standard set by the various companies states that the material is only acceptable to them when clean and dry. A material, which does not meet this standard, is not eligible.

The process of identification enables the professional to ascertain if the material used to make the product is eligible for recycling. A light spectrometer is able to identify various types of fibers and it is used to check if the product has the right one for the procedure. Some of the materials which are acceptable for this process are N6, PET fiber, polypropylene, foam padding, cardboard cores among others.

After the fiber is accepted, preparation starts which includes sorting out and packaging to be transported to the producers for the final processing. They are weighed and coded according to colors and fiber. An entry for each bale is made before shipping.

The production process then starts with the separation of the fiber from the material backing by removing the binding glue. This is then taken through further processing after which the fiber can now be used to make a new item. These goods are considered environment friendly due to the lack of oil based components used to make the new carpets. Carpet tiles can also be made through a down cycling process. Building materials can also be found as a byproduct of the process and even resin for use in the plastic industry.
