Importance Of Prisoner Transport Systems

By Stacey Burt

Transporting the inmates from a place to another can be very dangerous. Despite the fact that it is dangerous, it is a part of law that cannot be avoided. The danger is brought about by the thought of the prisoners to hack the journey and escape. The thriller by Nicolas cage drew people attention to the fact that the transport period is a great opportunity for inmates to get away. Prisoner transport systems give the law enforcement officers an opportunity to carry out this task successfully without necessarily putting their lives in danger.

Imprisonment rates were not as high as they are today until the 1980s. Because of this increase the number of inmates also increased so it became essential for more correctional amenities to be constructed. With more penitentiaries grew the requirement to move inmates from one to the other. For instance, a prisoners may be moved to other facilities because of structural transfers, health appointments or if they have some type of mental problem.

The number of prisoners that are transported from one correctional facility to another in a day is very high. If logistics are correct, they state that around 200 prisoners are moved between around 32 correctional facilities every single day. Many prisoners take this as a good chance to finally escape hence the danger to the people taking care of the movement.

Some of the common methods that the prisoners use to escape during their transportation is attacking the prison guards in charge of their movement. This may even cause accidents that may also affect the civilians who are caught in the scene. For this reason, the prison guards in charge of transportation usually get special kind of training to handle their job in the best manner possible.

The responsibility of movement the prisoners cannot be given to just any warden. There are some abilities that the officer must have to be suitable for this task. For instance, they must be fit both mentally and bodily and they must possess the skill of shooting inside a moving car. This will assist them to prevent escape situations.

The officers usually make a very simple assumption that each and very prisoner is planning to escape. This assumption helps them be extra careful during the task. They will also be able to apply all the precautionary measures possible to avoid regrets. Being observant will also help them to know if there is any car following them.

Communication is one of the key factors that can help officers when there is an escape plot by inmates. They must be well equipped with communication gadgets that will help them to call for help if anything occurs. It can be very difficult to stop the prisoners if they are more than the guards. Every single detail should be taken into consideration during the journey to avoid escape cases.

However, the assumption that the prisoners can escape does not mean that they are actually planning the escape. For this reason, the officers should not treat them badly because they are assuming they plan to escape. Inmates also have their own human rights and they deserve to be treated fairly.
