How Can I Take Control Of My Spiritual Life Journey

By Kristen Baird

Taking charge of your spiritual life is as hard as exercising, loosing weight, quitting smoking and such lifestyle changes. The first steps are difficult to make and very demanding. This should not discourage you. There is a definite place to start that will guarantee good result. You must say, I will take charge of my spiritual life journey.

As a human being, every day is a struggle to become a deeper and more meaningful person. The challenge lies in the fact that unlike physical change, inner change does not have tangible beacons. By going to the gym, taking health pills and restraining from visiting certain places, you can achieve physical change. The spirit is different because it is untouchable.

Internal change is the basis of any transformation. The decision to be a better person must come from within. The difficulty of spiritual change lies in the lack of something tangible to hold on. There is an inner self that yearns for authenticity and purity. This should be your focus as you seek to take charge of your destiny.

Every individual has an inner voice that directs actions and thoughts. It is this voice that instructs you on what to avoid and what to do. Persons who have found their purpose in life attribute it to listening to this inner voice. It directs your thoughts which translate into actions. Failure to heed to the dictates of this voice leads to internal conflict.

The authentic self is revealed when you are in touch with your inner self. The best way to reconnect with your inner and authentic self is through discernment. According to experts, spending time alone allows you to evaluate your life and identify areas that require attention. This is the way to correct waywardness of the spirit and avoid internal conflict.

Discernment offers a chance to answer several fundamental questions. Among them is, What if I am Kinder? More compassionate? More patient? Less selfish? More loving? More humble? More generous? Etc. When you have found an answer to these questions, then, your heart is ready for change.

Is it possible to change on your own? Specialists have been struggling with this dilemma for years. After numerous studies, they have identified the need for an external force. To renovate a house, new features must be added. The same applies to the heart. This brings to fore the religious aspect. Strong religious commitment offers a reliable pillar to govern your life.

The spirituality of each human being directs his attitudes, morality and values, among other attributes. The spirit goes astray when this spirituality is ignored. The process of restoring this spirituality must be driven by a strong desire and Christian values. As the bible requires that everyone must endeavor to be like Christ, a decision must be made to do so.

The paradoxical part of inner growth is that you cannot make it to happen yet it never happens unless you are involved. Your acceptance provides the right atmosphere for change. Your effort and desire to take charge of your destiny will bring clarity on what needs to be done. It opens the way for God to complete the transformation through his grace.
