Different treatments of Gynecomastia

By Caleb Lee

Gynecomastia refers to abnormal development of mammary glands in males. This results in breast enlargement and at times it causes milk secretion from those glands. These types of conditions can be found in neonates, adolescence and with the elderly persons.

The main causes of Gynecomastia are still not known but according to medical experts it is caused by the imbalance of the sex tissue or hormones in men. When there is more secretion of estrogen than testosterone in the male body, it causes a disproportionate increase in the level of the estrogen hormones. This imbalance is one of the basic causes of breast enlargement in men.

This hormonal imbalance causes fats to get deposited on the chest area of a male body. Thus, his breast gets larger, especially in individuals who are overweight.

Testosterone is the hormone which transforms a young boy approaching his teens or adolescence to a grown up man. If the desired count of hormones is not attained or crosses its higher limit in that case some side effects crop up. Gynecomastia is one such result of the imbalance. Apart from this, there are many causes. It has been studied that prolonged medication for treatment of some chronic diseases often results into gynecomastia.

According to survey results more than 10 to 20% of this disease occurs due to medication. Some of the medicines that may cause this disease are antipsychotics, imatinib mesylate, omeprazole, cimetidine, finasteride and others. Again medications that are used to treat prostate cancer like GnRH analogs and antiandrogens can also cause this problem.

Not just that, there are many other reasons pertaining to our body that may cause gynecomastia. As for example, if due to any reasons, hypothalamus or pituitary gland do not perform well, the testosterone count falls. This is a common and grave concern of male body. However, it should be remembered that whatever reason could be there, the treatment depends on the person.

For effective treatment of this disease an individual needs to know the root cause in his case as the treatment varies from one case to another. The treatment may be in the form of hormone treatments, surgery and dietary changes.

Thus, it is of paramount importance that you discuss your condition with your doctor. It will help the physician to choose the correct treatment from the different options available for curing this problem effectively. Gynexin alpha formula, tomoxifen, clomiphene and ultimate gynemax are some of the common medicines that are prescribed by physicians in order to help patients in getting rid of this ailment. In addition there are other gynecomastia supplements that help in reducing male boobs.

In certain cases, the only option left for both the doctors and patients is to operate it. Liposuction, gland excision, mammoplasty or a hybrid of all these methods are some of the common techniques of this surgery. It is not wise to draw conclusion yourself or self treatment. Do not change your diet or take any medicines without consulting a specialized doctor.
