Facts about Gynecomastia

By Caleb Lee

Gynecomastia: The Definition

It is a disease of men which results in abnormal growth of chest muscle, causing development like women breasts. The linguistic origin of the term is traced back to two Greek words ? (i) Gyne that means woman and (ii) Mastos that means breast. Gynecomastia is popularly known as man boobs. Excess chest fat for over exercise or obesity may also cause similar symptoms, though it is known as pseudo-gynecomastia in this case.

Gynecomastia: The Age-group that suffers

It can occur at different life stages of males. It can occur in newborns due to hormones from the mother, in adolescents, i.e. during puberty and in the older and elderly also, due to hormonal changes. It is seen more in adolescents though.

Reasons

Gynecomastia is caused mainly by hormonal disturbance in the man?s body though it is difficult to speak about the exact root cause of this disease since research is in progress. It is also believed to be genetically oriented. The imbalance of sex hormones like estrogens and testosterone is the main cause of gynecomastia which can be caused by certain drugs or steroids or certain medication too.

Symptoms Associated with Gynecomastia

The symptoms of gynecomastia are unusual enlargement of breasts. In some the chest area might become tender. Usually it is not painful. The degree of gynecomastia depends on the amount of enlargement.

Gynecomastia: General Problems

The condition of gynecomastia is not as painful as it is embarrassing. Thus, the problems faced by patients are psychological and social, not physical. The patients feel lack of confidence in social environment. It is more difficult for teenagers who get laughed at by peers and friends.

Diagnostic Tests for Gynecomastia

Though gynecomastia comes on with telltale symptoms, it can be diagnosed by a physical examination by a doctor who may perform certain medical tests such as blood tests and urine tests to confirm the existence of this disease. In some cases, a mammogram is also done. For better results, you should consult an endocrinologist who is a specialist in hormonal disorder treatments.

Treatment and Cure

The condition of Gynecomastia in newborns and teenagers gets corrected naturally though it may take a couple of years to correct the hormonal disorder. There is usually no need for any external treatment. Proper chest fat burner exercises and proper diet are the best cure for reducing chest fats.

However, for those who need external medication there are gynecomastia supplements like Ultimate gynemax and gynexin alpha formula. Difference after usage is usually evidently noticeable in 2-3 weeks without any side effects. Although there are no harmful effects of these chest fat burners, it is important to make sure that you buy them from reliable sources so you do fall for fake gynexin.

As a last resort, patients may opt for surgical reduction of breasts. The doctor will remove excess breast tissues either by suction lipectomy or endoscopic surgery. This cure is no doubt quick but it can be painful and there are possibilities of scars being left on chest.

Others diseases related to Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia may not be harmful but in some cases it appears as a symptom for other diseases like breast cancer, adrenal gland tumours, liver diseases, and cancer related to lungs or male organs. In such cases, gynecomastia can be cured only by curing related diseases. Thus you must consult your physician in order to eliminate these possibilities.
