Medical treatment for Gynecomastia

By Caleb Lee

Gynecomastia is a disease like any other and needs proper medical attention. But, many times the patient feels so ashamed of his physical deformity that he tries to hide it. This attitude only aggravates the condition. Remember, it is always easier to treat a disease in its initial stages than when it sets in and becomes chronic. So, as soon as you notice some thing going amiss in your body, you must consult with your doctor and follow his advice.

Men who have the condition of Gynecomastia do not like to talk about it. That is why the treatment becomes long and painful. Gynecomastia is a medical condition, often known as male boobs, in which the abnormal mammary glands development in males causes breast enlargement. It makes the breasts sore and tender and sometimes there is milk secretion also.

During puberty many boys develop large breasts but often it is a temporary condition which passes off naturally within a year or two. It is also a common side effect of weight gain in case of the aged people. But, in the majority of cases, it is the result of hormonal imbalance in the body.

Whatever be the case, it is best to consult the doctor even at the initial period. This is because it can also be caused by the presence of testicular tumor. In that case a biopsy is required to detect the early stage of cancer.

It is important to differentiate gynecomastia and pseudogynecomastia. Just one visit to the doctor can confirm whether it is gynecomastia or pseudogynecomastia. Peudogynecomastia is caused by the excessive fat accumulation and weight gain. It is a direct result of lack of chest fat burner exercises. However, it can create trauma all the same.

In many instances, it is difficult to track the exact cause of gynecomastia because researches show that nearly twenty five percent of the cases are rather idiopathic in nature. However, the general causes for gynecomastia can be:

- Lack of chest fat burner exercises - Rising rate of serum estrogen - The defects in androgen receptor - Chronic disease of liver - Chronic disease of kidney - Medications - Falling rate of testosterone - AIDS treatment - Various chronic diseases - Spinal cord injury

Many times gynecomastia is caused by certain medicines. Generally these medications are:

- Androgens - Estrogen Agonists - Anabolic Steroids - Anti-androgens - Ketoconazole - Isoniazid - Metronidazole - Anti-ulcer medicines - Chemotherapeutics for cancer - Cardiovascular medicines - Psychoactive medicines - Penicillamine - Alcohol - Marijuana

These medicines disrupt the normal rate of various hormone activities. Gynecomastia, as we already know, is the result of abnormal hormone activities. In any eventuality, regardless of the reason behind the ailment, it is best to consult with the doctors. Hiding it is not the solution; it can worsen the condition if timely action is not taken.
