Can You Really Use Covert Hypnosis While Talking With Someone?

By Rob Andrews

Have you ever met somebody who seemed to be able to convince anybody to do anything, just by talking to them. You know, like the salesman who can sell ice to Eskimos?

Why are some people able to do this and other aren't?

Conversational hypnosis is one way of influencing others by simply talking with them.

Let me tell you what conversational hypnosis is.

Conversational hypnosis is not about placing people in deep trances, like a professional hypnotist would do in his office.

What it is about is using language that by-passes someone's conscious brain and makes suggestions directly to the subconscious mind. Using the words of the conversation to directly communicate with the subconscious mind of the listener is conversational hypnosis.

Robert Dilts is an expert in this field. He refers to this type of language as sleight of mouth. He explains that language provides a map of our world and each person lives in her own world (pretty deep stuff, huh?).

He means that every person views the world in a unique way, and language is used to describe their world and even further to actually create their world.

To put it simply, when you discuss something in a specific way, you are actually directing your mind to think of it in that way. To give an example, a person who constantly complains that she hates school, will reinforce that she hates school. She will actually make her words into her reality.

So what does this have to do with conversational hypnosis?

Similar to how you created the reality of hating school by merely talking about it, you will influence other people to hate school also by speaking to them in this way.

This gives the expression attitudes are contagious a whole new meaning. You see, not only do someone's words influence their mind to create a new reality, they influence others in the same way.

Words you hear infect your subconscious brain just like a virus you get infects your physical body. So if you hang around friends who use constantly use words to express that they hate school, then it is quite possible you will start to feel that way too. Not because you agree with their logical argument, but rather because the words they use to describe their feelings will penetrate your subconscious mind.

This is because words are powerful! One of the reasons words are so powerful is that the subconscious mind soaks them up like a sponge.

The subconscious mind is always aware of what's going on around you. In fact, that's were most of a person's thinking goes on. But the subconscious is easily influenced by what people around you are saying.

So if you use the right kinds of words you can really change the way you, and others, see the world. And what are the right kinds of words? Ahhhhhh, thats a good question. But youll have to wait until part 2 of this article, or visit my blog.
