The Ultimate Tool in the Martial Arts!

The deadliest tool I know, in the martial arts, is also the one least used. I am talking about the actual and effective use of space. Space, if properly understood and utilized, can win any fight.

Space is nothing, is emptiness, is the absence of objects. Just ask any light beam and you will find that space is also the greatest conductor of visual perception. Space is not understood by most martial artists, and it is very...zen.

Space is the distance between your opponent and you. You can control the fight If you can control the space between you and your opponent. In any fight this should be the first strategy.

Space is the perception of your body. This is important if you realize that by relaxing you can perceive more, and thereby create more space. If you can create more space in this manner, you can create more potential for motion.

When you execute a negative strike you are utilizing space. By being unaffected by energy and emotion (emotion contains, and can stop, a high degree of energy), by throwing the mass of the body, by taking energy out of your strike, your strike will be ten times harder. Simply, treat your body as if it is nothing but an object, and throw it at your opponent.

If you understand the space created by not having consideration for your opponent, then you will understand the space of the last paragraph. This is what I used to call The Dead Strike. Simply, there was no consideration for life when I threw the object and mass of my body at somebody.

The most important space is the space of your thoughts. Thoughts don't occupy space, so you should concentrate your efforts not on moving by muscle, but on moving by thought. By reducing muscular effort and moving by thought, you will be able to move far faster than you ever thought possible.

Humanities real final frontier is that of thought. The source of all motion is thought. Relax and have thought, create space, and you will have the real Secret of the True Martial Arts.
