Learn Modern Self Defense Techniques

By Steve Thibeault

It is difficult to understand why people do not like to talk about the subject of self-defense and actually shy away from it as if it were taboo. In the world that we live in, it is important to accept that we often find ourselves in dangerous surroundings and for their own good, we should make sure that our children are well versed in modern self-defense.

Way back in history, the human race learned to defend itself rather well as people would have to defend themselves from attacks by neighboring tribes and so on. If we fast forward to today, we don't have to worry about attacks of this nature, but individuals still seem intent on depriving us of our belongings and we still need to be ready for any eventuality.

The same principle applies whether we're talking about ancient or modern self-defense. Preparation is everything and it is cool to see young children participating in karate or kung fu training at neighborhood establishments. In reality, it ought to be a condition that appropriate hand-to-hand defense is taught in our schools, so that everyone is ready should anything untoward take place.

We do not live in an ideal world and sometimes we find ourselves in a potentially vulnerable situation, maybe alone at night in a questionable environment. As modern self-defense devices are readily available and suitable for all generations from the very young to the very old, you can always be prepared for these situations.

Thank goodness that we do not have to behave like the ancient generations, who had to resort to lethal force when trying to defend themselves. We might consider ourselves more civilized and certainly it seems that if we show that we are willing to fight back, this can often disarm a situation. American citizens have the right to bear arms to defend themselves, but a nonlethal outcome is obviously more palatable.

Modern self-defense devices are excellent deterrents. For example, if you use a simple pepper spray you can cause considerable upset and discomfort to an attacker with no permanent harm, allowing you to escape and summon assistance.

Modern self defense technology gives us the option of carrying a taser, which when pressed against the attacker discharges a very large electrical current and will certainly immobilize him. As the majority of would-be attackers are really after our belongings, lethal force is not appropriate, but the taser can get the job done for you.

Don't live in fear of attack at any time during your life. Just make sure that you school yourself in the variety of ancient and modern self-defense options available to you.
