Modern Self Defense Options Help You Prepare

By Steve Thibeault

For some reason, as a society we tend to stray away from broaching the subject of self-defense as if it were something that we understand to be necessary but would rather not talk about. This may be because we think that we live in a civilized world, yet in reality we should be ready for all eventualities and should ensure that our children are schooled in modern self-defense tactics.

Way back in history, the human race learned to defend itself rather well as people would have to defend themselves from attacks by neighboring tribes and so on. If we fast forward to today, we don't have to worry about attacks of this nature, but individuals still seem intent on depriving us of our belongings and we still need to be ready for any eventuality.

Ancient or modern self-defense tactics rely on the same principle. You must be prepared. It is gratifying to see an increase in the number of facilities that teach martial arts training and to watch the horde of kids dressed appropriately for kung fu or karate training in attendance. It is unfortunate that the majority of the population is not schooled in such hand-to-hand defense as well and may not be prepared should something untoward happen.

Modern self-defense devices are available to every member of society from the very young to the very old. We often find that from time to time we need to travel alone, sometimes at night and sometimes within an environment that may be considered dangerous. We should always ensure that we are prepared.

Ancient populations used to resort to lethal combat when defending themselves, but these days we do not need to be as aggressive as that. Often it is sufficient to show what you're willing to defend yourself, which will often ward off a perpetrator. Americans have the right to bear arms to defend themselves, but it is better to go for nonlethal results.

Modern self-defense devices are excellent deterrents. For example, if you use a simple pepper spray you can cause considerable upset and discomfort to an attacker with no permanent harm, allowing you to escape and summon assistance.

Modern self defense technology gives us the option of carrying a taser, which when pressed against the attacker discharges a very large electrical current and will certainly immobilize him. As the majority of would-be attackers are really after our belongings, lethal force is not appropriate, but the taser can get the job done for you.

Don't live in fear of attack at any time during your life. Just make sure that you school yourself in the variety of ancient and modern self-defense options available to you.
