It is possible to get a clean, bright white smile without breaking your bank account. Most people would like to know natural methods that can be done at home. These methods may have side affects that you should know and watch for before trying any of them. Whitening toothpastes are available nearly everywhere and are very effective at cleaning. They should be used nightly and you will probably not see results until you have used them for a period of time. They are probably one of the less expensive over the counter methods that are available.

Whitening strips are quick and easy to use. Simply apply the strips to your gums for a few minutes daily and then remove them. This is a preferred method because it is affordable and it can be done while doing other things such as driving.

Lemon juice and salt can be used as a paste as an effective cleaner and stain remover. It cannot be used indefinitely but it is safe for many days at on time. The problem is that it has a high concentration of citric acid. This acid will cause a decrease in the amount of calcium that your teeth contain and may damage the enamel covering.

An effective whitening paste can be made out of strawberries to clean stains. This is a great method to truly clean and whiten but it does have its downsides. It contains nearly as much citric acid as lemon juice so it may cause your teeth to decay quicker if used to to great a period of time.

Baking soda and peroxide have been used to clean teeth for decades to clean and brighten teeth. They can be used together as a paste or separately. It is possible to gargle with peroxide and create the whiter smile that you crave and a paste can be made from baking soda water that is quite effective. The side affects may include irritation and sensitivity of your teeth and gums so it is necessary to check your mouth after every use.

This next method has no known side affects but certain individuals may find it difficult to use. This method involves rubbing walnut bark onto your teeth. This will reduce but not remove discoloration.

You can keep your smile bright and shiny by brushing every night with apple cider vinegar. This is an easy method to follow and you can find the vinegar at any grocery store in your area. Some people do claim that it causes there gums to swell and bleed so if you notice any of these symptoms, immediately stop use.

These six methods are the most commonly used for teeth whitening other that going to your dentist. They will not provide overnight results and they may not work for every person or every type of stain. Many of them should be used with caution and you should always check your mouth frequently for signs of swelling or bleeding.
