Tips For Maintaining Your Shoes

When we buy new shoes there is always the hope that the pair will last a while. Buying a pair of shoes that give out by the time you wear them the second time is truly disappointing, frustrating, and not to mention embarrassing if they break in public.

It is a known fact that the better the quality of materials used to create the shoes, the longer it will last. However, it is inevitable that we will be buying shoes that range from very expensive to cheap. Whatever kind of shoes you go for, you can lengthen their wear life by proper maintenance.

There are a number of ways to maintain shoes, especially leather shoes. Below, we discuss a few of them.

Cracking is a common problem for patent leather shoes. If you want to prevent your shoes from cracking then follow this method: rub your shoes with a mixture of milk and petroleum jelly or olive oil. This will make the leather soft and supple and it really works even if it sounds a little icky.

Many leather shoes get damaged when they get wet. You can waterproof your leather shoes by rubbing them with boiled linseed oil. Add an extra coating of linseed oil a second time, dry it, and it will be ready to wear again safe from the element of water.

Cleaning white leather shoes is a little tricky but there is a technique to it. Using a cotton wool pad, rub your shoes all over with cleansing milk. Let the shoes dry for 15 minutes before polishing them using a dry duster.

For leather boots, keeping their shape is essential to maintaining the quality. You can do this by inserting shoe supports.

There are numerous ways to maintain your shoes and the above are just some of them. Whatever method you use, make sure you do it regularly. It's the only way you can prolong the life of your shoes.
