A question that stirs thoughts of battle or losing in the minds of many. We are taught to live life to its fullest, to depend upon ourselves, to beat, to win, to master. If we are able to visualise or paint an image of the result we need we will be in a position to succeed. God's plan is quite the reverse. Learning how to surrender to God actually leads to a life of freedom.
It is the Holy Spirit that brings us to the cross and causes us to face the gloomy reality of our need to die to the world and sin. We will never be able to live a life that's beyond our hopes until we have surrendered to God. Look at what a close Friend declared about surrendering to God, "For me, this has been the best key to walking in joy, peace, and liberty is enabling Him to rid me of self."
The thrill of surrendering your life to God is something that you must experience for yourself. Nobody can understand it. You have to experience what it implies to surrender to God for yourself. Surrender has to come as a real answer from your heart. Consider the difficulties you are currently dealing with and then imagine I say to you, "Just surrender them to God and give Him control." My better half of 27 years died when she was only 51 years of age, and initially I wasn't prepared to hear those words: "Just surrender everything to God and give Him control." Those words would have looked wicked at that time in my life.
Nonetheless as God graciously reminded me over the passage of time surrender is what He wants from us. His desire for my life is that I surrender to Him, giving Him complete control. (With time, it also became just what I wanted to do.)
Consider how you are carrying the burdens of hurt, pain and emptiness in your life. God doesn't want you to live your life with those burdens. He wants for you to give Him each and every hurt, every pain, and every situation you're going through. There isn't anything in this life more urgent or even more thrilling than surrendering everything to God. Your surrendering to Him will lead on to healing, modification, and an abounding life, bigger than you ever imagined practicable.
Trust in the LORD with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all of your methods submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverb 3:5-6
