Motivation Made Easy

By Matt Smith

Having the capability to inspire others is important for any business person. Understanding others and being able to encourage them will help any business person improve the profitability of their business by ensuring people perform to the best of their abilities. Therefore, if you want to make sure you obtain the best possible results, then you have to learn how to effectively inspire your team. This article is going to have a look at three suggestions that will make it simple and easy for you to encourage the people that work for you and improve their performance along the way.

People are extremely motivated when they share a common objective, when they are working together towards attaining the same goals. To achieve this, you need to involve everyone on your team in each and every stage of a project, including reviews, planning and generating results. Every person needs to know what is happening always and that means you need to have meetings often. The more they know, the harder they will work towards attaining the common goal. People definitely will feel as if they are part of something greater and that they matter when they are being kept informed at all times. When people think they are making a difference, they are more likely to work harder to be sure the desired results are achieved.

One of the most effective motivational tools available is setting an example. You simply can't expect people to do things you are not willing to do, so by setting a positive example, your staff will do everything they can to imitate you. For instance, if you're open to the idea of change, are ambitious and hard-working, your staff members will follow your example. Conversely, if you don't open up, or come to work for two hours, you will only demoralize your staff members, which will no longer put any effort into getting the goals you set. People want to copy successful people so the more exacting you are in the criteria you set for yourself, the more likely it is for your staff members to follow in your footsteps. You have to be fair, dependable and open with your people since your ultimate purpose is to inspire your team to attain results.

Discipline is a contentious topic when it comes to motivation as many people believe exclusively in the power of positive motivation. Discipline is still necessary sometimes, even if much more can be done with positive reinforcement and motivation. This doesn't mean you should intimidate people but at the same time if somebody consistently makes the same mistake and you discover it's due to negligence, for example, then you have to discipline that person swiftly and effectively. However, you shouldn't dwell on it and be sure to offer rewards when their overall performance meets or exceeds your expectations.

To efficiently motivate the men and women on your team, you need to understand what motivates them. You'll find inspiring people much easier when you know them well, so the closer you are to your team, the better they will perform. Although not everything will work, the ideas mentioned in this article will act as an excellent starting point. Getting to know the individuals you work with is essential and it's the secret to easy motivation.
