Creating Mental Flexibility

By Brad Wilson

You will surely need some strategizing if you wish to make the switch to healthy habits in your lifestyle. But when you are just starting out, a busy life can be a hindrance. Planning everything from workout schedules to you meal plans might be ideal in the beginning but you will require flexibility as time passes. You should not let things come in the way of achieving your goal. Rules and regulations are important to make sure this is the case. But making room for the inaccuracies in life is just as important.

How to Remain Mentally Flexible

As the habit building process goes on, you will realize soon enough that things have a way of not turning out according to plan at times. You have to constantly account for unforeseen things like traffic delays, cancellations and other similar setbacks. Being too rigid about plans is not going to be of help in such a case.

History of Behaviors Should Be Accepted

Mental flexibility is a set of behaviors, not a personality trait and behaviors can be changed. It is something you do. Lasting positive changes can occur only if you are open to detours in life. The first thing to do would be to accept your behavioral history. Being a perfectionist or inflexible might have been something in life that you got respected and rewarded for.

Compromise

Wherever possible, compromise. There is nothing inherently wrong about speaking your mind. But you have to make sure you are not being domineering, but simply assertive. Being more flexible is possible if you recognize and record situations where you are tempted to act in a domineering fashion. This time, instead of taking the lead, let someone else take charge.

Flexible Actions

In order to ensure your body is flexible, flexible actions like sensual massages, yoga, stretching, and strength building are important. When changing or stretching mental behaviors the same philosophies apply. You can acquire a mellow attitude like the strokes of a sensual massage. Learn to let go and change your rigid behaviors.

Failure

Failure is functional when it comes to mental flexibility. Learning to let go and share responsibilities and attempting actions that are more flexible every day will help you reduce stress and help you recognize your triggers. Of course all this is going to take time and you will have to pace yourself. The behaviors you accumulated over time will not go away overnight.

Take the time to give yourself a break and treat yourself to a relaxing sensual massage and yoga to help your mind and body relax. Your mental flexibility journey will be helped this way.
