9 Simple Strategies to Boost Your Memory

By Hal Neff

When people are asked about the most crucial things in their lives, they will usually put their favorite memories near the top of the list. However, when you grow older you may notice that your memory is not what it used to be.

The good news is that you can find easy steps you can take in order to strengthen your memory without a whole lot of effort. Eventually, you'll be glad you did them and you will realize that your memory is absolutely worth the time and effort.

Consider seeking the following techniques to improve your memory:

1 . Repetition. Repetition moves info within your brain from short term to long term memory. Simple, right? So why not use it more often?

* If you are trying to remember names, repeat the names aloud or scribble them down.

* If you want to recall information, write it on flash cards and review them regularly.

2 . Reduce your stress level. Long term stress can do some severe harm to your mental wellness. Stress plays a big role in your capability to remember stuff. If you engage in stress reducing activities each day, you will be doing a service to your overall health and strengthen your memory in the process.

3. Avoid rushing. It is tempting to hurry through life at a fast pace. However , you are much more likely to forget stuff if you are going too quickly. If you're in a position where you know you'll have to remember information, give yourself appropriate length of time to process the information.

4. Enjoy puzzles. Try participating in some kind of puzzle or mind teaser each day. When your brain is used to working, it will continue to do so. If it spends a lot of time being idle, your memory skills will start to without you even really realizing it.

* Exercising your mind is just as essential as working out your body.

5. Think positively. If you have a positive mindset, you're more inclined to achieve great things. There is no exception to this rule when it comes to your memory. When you think that you have a poor memory, it'll be so. Think positive thoughts, and your memory skills will automatically improve.

6. Stay organized. Make an effort to strengthen your organizational skills. Scribble down reminders for yourself and keep track of data. When your life is disorganized, it is more difficult to recall things.

7. Get a good night's rest. Your brain requires a certain amount of sleep in order to function properly. Less sleep makes it more difficult to concentrate and less likely to commit information to long term memory.

8. Improve your health. Enhancing overall health strengthens your memory as well. A good diet and regular exercise maintain your brain function in good shape. Physical exercise also pumps blood to the brain, which helps to keep you alert and active.

9. Avoid distractions. At times you'll discover that you have difficulties recalling things because you might have been distracted while you were attempting to concentrate.

* When people are talking to you, be sure you provide your undivided attention.

* When you are working on your computer, keep the TV and other disruptions to a minimum.

Remember to stay organized and actively keep your mental and physical health a high priority, and you will enjoy a healthy memory for many years to come!
