Introducing The Spirituality Network Of Columbus Ohio

By Helen Walker

When it comes to religious and spiritual beings, there is often a difference which remains unseen. While this is the case, the spirituality network located in Columbus, Ohio is a Christian community based on inclusion and acceptance. The goal of the organization is to provide a variety of resources to aid in spiritual growth by creating purpose, peace, hope and love in the community. One way in which the organization meets this goal is through a monthly newsletter.

The organization recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of the network. In doing so, the group reconfirmed the commitment to awaken lives whom can transform the world, ground in the source of all creation and promote the contemplative life through community action and activities. As such, the message of acceptance and inclusion is not taken lightly by the organization or those involved in these and other ministries.

The group focuses on belief in a Creator whose love is unconditional and never compromising. In addition, the organization promotes living a healthy and well balanced lifestyle including an ongoing relationship with God, all creation and oneself. Whereas, those involved in the organization often have a life rooted in a radical passion to change the world, prayer and non-violence.

The organization provides a number of resources to members and those in the local community. These include the Wellstreams Program, spiritual direction referrals for individuals, spiritual retreats and counseling and programs which can foster a more deeply spiritual life which include care and enrichment for others. In most cases, services are provided free of charge and without expectation of anything in return.

While most religions cater to people whom adhere to the dogma and beliefs of the faith, the organization provides these services to people regardless of a belief in God, faith or lifestyle. Being a nonprofit based 501 (c)3 organization, all donations made to the organization are tax deductible on an annual basis.

One program the spiritual network provides is that of the Living Faith Awards. The awards recognize laypersons whom have exemplified faith through action. Recipients include individuals who live in ways that challenge and inspire while serving those in need. More information on this and other programs can be found in a monthly newsletter published by the organization.

In addition to the Living Faith award, other awards are provided which include Alvin R Haley Social Justice Award which is presented to an individual for outstanding work in the field of Social Justice, The Interfaith/Multicultural Award which is presented to an individual for living an exemplary life based on ethnicity and faith and the Hope For Tomorrow Award which is presented to a youth aged 18 to 30 which lives a life of faith through service to the local community.

Each year, there is a call for nominations. In order for a person to be nominated, the individual must promote peacemaking in all areas of life, visit the imprisoned and sick, give shelter to the homeless and feed the hungry, caring for the earth and all creation, loving neighbors as oneself and bring local communities together for the common good.
