Information On Airsoft Guns And Pistols

By Anthony Carter

Airsoft is now a very popular pastime for both young and old Americans. Thousands of people enjoy playing in these realistic combat simulations every week. Most airsoft guns and pistols are realistic looking replicas of well known fire arms. They are classified depending upon the type of mechanism that they use to fire the pellets.

There are three dominant forms of mechanisms present on airsoft guns. These are gas, spring, or most recently, electric. The performance of the gun will vary depending upon its exact characteristics. The accuracy, battery life, capacity, range, size, and weight will be different in various models. Originally, the first airsoft guns used a spring mechanism, but then at a later date the gas powered mechanism was developed in Japan, such gas powered guns are referred to as classic airsoft guns. They functioned by using a gas flow system which powered the firing mechanism. The gas was generally carbon dioxide or compressed air and was contained in an external tank.

Automatic electric guns (AEGs) are the latest form of airsoft guns. They are fairly popular with certain players of the game. Their firing mechanism works by a small amount of air being displaced through the power given by the rechargeable batteries. Even though these are a more modern invention, some individuals still prefer airsoft guns with gas mechanisms as they claim that they have a more realistic feel to them.

Gas powered airsoft pistols often use propane gas. It is now possible to acquire magazines for pistols that have a built in gas cylinder with adequate capacity to fire the pellets contained in the magazine. Many players enjoy the realism this creates as it is a more similar feel to an actual pistol.

When they were first introduced, airsoft guns were completely comprised of plastic apart from a very few metal pieces in the mechanisms. Now today, they are sold with both external and internal metal components. If you have tried using a airsoft gun you may have found them rather light. This has been overcome by adding additional weight to certain models to give a better experience.

The magazines that are used with airsoft guns come in many different capacities. Pistols may only have a ten to thirty pellet capacity though it is possible to purchase hi cap magazines which can hold as many as fifty pellets.

The magazines for automatic electric guns can be bought in three different capacities. The lowest capacity magazines contain up to 80 projectiles, mid capacity have between 80 to 150, and high capacity can contain as many as 500 projectiles.

When playing airsoft it is also possible to use replica mines, grenades, and grenade launchers. These are generally powered by compressed gas and are designed to appear as similar in appearance to the real thing. A grenade or grenade launcher may hold or fire as many as three hundred pellets at a time. A mine may not release any pellets but only produce a thick cloud of smoke when exploded.

Anti tank airsoft weapons can also be purchased but these are not often used as they are costly and heavy.
