How A Church Organization Raises Its Funds

By Marshall Andrews

Churches always need extra funds for running their charities, maintaining their properties, serving the community and so forth. Apart from the above, the church has the task of paying salaries of the workers, both administrative as well as junior workers like janitors. The church clerics also expect to be paid by the church.

Holiday programs like Christmas lighting and other decorations must be funded in some way. This is why you find that the normal offerings given by the church members will not be sufficient funds to meet all the church's expenses. Fundraisers come in handy to fill the gap. This is where you get the big money.

Many different ways exist by which funds can be raised for the church kitty. Baby photo competition is one of the methods. Then there could be the selling of candles and Christmas cards. Other members do sponsor the bricks which are used to construct or improve the church premises. Other valuable ways include car donations.

Members love to help the church by donating to such noble causes, so they give or buy stuff that is offered for fundraising purposes. Maybe something that is not worth quite as much will get more since people are feeling extra generous and know the money will go to a great cause.

Take for example the candle fundraiser event; the congregation gets to participate by giving out brochures containing certain types of candles to the community for orders. Some percentage of the sales then is given to the church. Some community members could make quilts and donate them to the church for selling to people and the proceeds would go to the church.

There is another useful way to raise funds whereby the members could sponsor bricks which the church wants to use for construction projects such as making a patio or sidewalk. In which case, the people would sponsor a number of bricks and they get their names printed on the bricks which they have donated.

Initiatives such as car donations are normally of mutual benefit, since the individual who donates a car is entitled to a tax deduction while at the same time not going out of his way to get a buyer for it. This makes it extremely easy for someone who has a busy schedule.

The car donation works like this; the organization that collects a car as a donation is able to sell it, keep a portion of the money and the rest is given to the church to help them out. This type of fundraiser is the best since it is not tedious. Also, if you are the one who owns the car, once you hand it over you no longer have any other type of responsibilities before getting your deduction and donation to a good cause.
