Ways To Overwhelm The Tendency To Procrastinate

By Taylor Pluck

Procrastinating is something that most of us have to contend with from time to time, and it gets the best of us more than we want to admit. Here are some things that can help you to confront procrastination head on and get the upper hand.

Getting over procrastination first starts with you being willing to admit that you do in the first place. Everything else will stem from that first step.

The next thing to do is to see how big a part of your life procrastination plays, and to notice how it interferes with you accomplishing a lot of things. Start to think about all the things that you could have accomplished if you just got up and did them.

Don't try and over guilt yourself about everything you missed out on. Instead, take this opportunity to make a stand and promise yourself that you are going to start to do things on time.

The hardest part of the process is going to be with the next tip. You need to find a way to motivate yourself to get things done right away. There is no formula or method that can help you. It has to come from inside, and you need to really want and hunger for it.

Any of a million tasks that you need to get out of the way are fair game as far as taking things one by one and getting them done. The key here is to do things, not worry about them and put them off. The more things you do, the less you will want to delay getting things done.

Finally, after a little bit of time and experience, take a little while and take stock at where you are at and where you still need to go to get your goals accomplished. Don't forget to notice how easy it was and that you should do this more often.

Remember that this is an ongoing process, and you are going to have to be vigilant and aware as different moments come up that you may be tempted to put off until a later time. Keep pushing yourself, and when those times do come that make you want to delay accomplishing something, just put your mind to it and get it done.
