Avoid at All Costs: Top Ten Worst Jobs

By Peter Vaskowitz

What would you think the top ten worst jobs in science would be? Science has long been in demand and continues to be so, but there are a few careers that are pretty negative. People with typical mindsets even now want their children to decide on a profession related to research in order to guarantee a safe future. However, they might not be aware of the fact that even science provides jobs that would cause them to wish their offspring had taken up something more desireable.

So what grotesque occupations does science present? Here are the contenders for the top ten worst jobs throughout science:

Underarm researchers - There is actually a good institution where researchers study the body odors of different people, mainly in the armpit region. This is done in order to examine the compounds that give every person a different body smell. Imagine you smelling other people's underarms. Pretty bad!

Handling fecal material - Numerous hospitals practice the dubious technique of re-planting fecal matter from a healthy individual to a person affected by an intestinal bacterial infection. Disgusting, isn't this? How about having someone else's fecal matter inside of you?

Modeling sneezes - Your own instincts tell you to move away from someone who is sneezing. One clinical job consists of studying the areas where influenza enters the body. The task requires a particular person to take another person's sneeze or cough right in the face. Would you rather stay out of work or be this pathetic test subject? This has to be one of the top ten worst jobs. Hypochondriacs don't apply!

Prehistoric feces researcher - A paleontologist in Montana gathers dinosaur waste to discover more regarding the plant constituents and climate details of the period when these creatures existed.

Simian urine extractor - It could look like a joke but this is actually worthy of the prize for being one of the top ten worst jobs ever. Collecting urine from monkeys is just like gathering human urine at the doctor, except monkeys miss the target much more often! Yucky!

Forecasting the Future - With the Mayan calendar already saying the world will end around 2012 and a movie created based on that, scientists have received lots of queries about when the world will actually end. Now there is a well intentioned scientific discussion with an unbiased crowd! Science, myth, what's the difference?

Collecting decaying deceased marine creatures - Scientists at a Hong Kong facility use a lot of biological materials from dead and decomposing sea wildlife. These types of samples look like mucous and smell even worse than rotten fish or egg.

Creating human tissue - Grafting new tissues calls for recycling the body tissue of dead people in morgues or funeral homes. The details of their work are generally fairly gross, even if you like horror movies.

Counting legumes - You may laugh your head off at this but Indianapolis researchers actually add up the healthy beans in their bean husks each month. This is done since they want to determine which 30 days was the best in terms of bean production. You need to agree that it's probably better than the rest of the jobs on this list, but not by very much.

Fileting dead dolphins - Certainly worthy of being mentioned among the worst work in science, this job is actually done by a museum staff in Oregon. They do it by cutting up the dead bodies of dolphins that land up on the beach to find out precisely what caused their death. The job requires several hours spent cutting through pools of flesh, fat, skin and spoiled meat.

If you have been taking into consideration a career in scientific testing, just remember that with the sophistication of science, there are also these top ten worst jobs that you could land in!
