The Basics About Business Coaching

By Tom Doerr

While consulting has been around for a long time, business coaching is a relatively new. It is something whereby advice and support is offered to help someone, or a group of people, to reach a particular professional goal. Whether you have a small company and are in need of some guidance, or whether you are considering becoming one yourself, here is some information.

Whether you have a large or a small company, you could benefit from coaching. Some people choose to have individual, personal sessions. Others attend big seminars, while others go in groups. It is something that can be done together in a room, over the internet or over the phone.

Perhaps you are considering becoming one yourself. You will find it a potentially very lucrative career. Another advantage is that it provides you with the opportunity to work with different companies in different industries. This is ideal for people who like variation and change. Another advantage is the potential to travel, as you will have to travel to different companies.

If you are considering doing this, you will have to be certified. There are a number of courses you can follow. Their focus and duration may differ and you should choose one dependent on what it is you would like to achieve.

If you are considering consulting with a coach, take the time to look around. Make sure you use someone whom you trust and with whom you feel comfortable. It is also important to make sure that they do not also work directly with your competitors and that they understand the nature of your company and your goals.

Do not get confused between business coaching and consulting. A consultant has a more direct, hands on approach to solving problems and showing results in terms of profits. A coach has a more general approach. They will focus on helping you reach your potential and will teach you rather than fix problems for you.
