Keep Your Home Safe with the Right Locksmith Service

By Mary Reese

In many cases, the only thing that prevents a property crime is a locked door. Personal safety may be a risk if it were not for a good lock. The problem with locks regardless of how well they protect is that they can be opened by its key. Locks serve to protect family and property. Businesses that have rented an office space have no idea who has a key to the front door. Apartment renters have no idea who has a key to their front door, as well. Homeowners who may have just closed on their new home cannot be sure who may have a set of keys. The first call everyone should make after settling in is to a professional locksmith.

The owners and renters all believe they are safe from intrusion, because the locks all work and seem sturdy. The owners and renters only assumed they have the only set of keys to their homes and rented spaces. The sturdiest locks in the world are easily opened by anyone using the keys to the lock. A professional locksmith should be called to replace all entry locks. The locksmith can also key all locks to the same key. Having a different key for the front, back and side doors only leads to confusion and lost keys.

Janitors that have cleaned the office building may very well have a set of keys. Keys can become lost or end up in the wrong hands. The janitor may have left the employ of the cleaning service with a spare set of keys. The first thing anyone should do after renting an office or an apartment should have a locksmith change the locks. The renters may need to provide a key to the property owner.

Homeowners that had a home built to their specifications should also have the locks changed. Contractors are in and out of homes under construction almost daily. Cleaning crews can have keys to homes under construction, as well. This is not to say anyone with a set of keys has criminal intentions. The contractors for convenience's sake may have passed out keys to sub contractors, for example, the plumber or electrician. The point is that the owners cannot account for all sets of keys.

Homes purchased from previous owners will have spare keys potentially anywhere. The neighbors may have a spare set, and certainly, any older children of the home had a set. The first priority of renters and owners is the protection of family and property. A professional locksmith can set minds at ease by installing new locks and providing the only set of keys to the owners. The only way renters and owners can account for all the keys is to have new locks installed by a professional locksmith.
