Your Health and the Essence of Qi Gong

By Elisa Rosa

These differences make Qi Gong so far removed from Western concepts that it may not even look like a workout to most people in Western cultures. In typical, task driven Western fashion, exercise is mainly focused on working out a few systems which are deemed to be the most important. Don't underestimate the power of practicing martial arts.

Qi Gong is a type of moving meditation and requires the practitioner to stay connected and focused on his or her movements. Not only does this allow you to keep your body in perfect alignment and open the channels that your energy flows through, it also requires a focus that improves your ability to think clearly and calmly in any situation.

Rather than focusing on a few major body systems, they include cultivation of the muscles, heart and lungs, as well as the circulatory, lymphatic, digestive, and nervous systems and the internal organs. controlling the movement of energy through the body allows you to build and strengthen all of these systems and promote health from the inside out. Where Western exercise is focused on building strength and endurance, Qi Gong also includes balance, focus and relaxation.

In the parks of China, you can find literally thousands of people practicing various methods of Qi Gong to maintain health and spiritual well-being. This tradition goes back thousands of years and is closely related to Buddhist and Taoist philosophies of balance and inner strength. With an opening of Chinese culture in recent years, Tai Chi classes and groups can also be found all over the U.S. in gyms and community education catalogs.

You can take classes and learn the basics. Meanwhile, you get to meet others in your area who share your interests and maybe form a group who practice together. Take a hint from Chinese practitioners and get together in the park to relax, enjoy nature and improve your health and well-being with the discipline of Qi Gong. Start improving your health today! Check out Qi Gong!
