Study Self Defense Using The Martial Art Form Of Jiu Jitsu

Jiu Jitsu is a martial art form, which initially started in 750 AD in Japan, but didn't arrive at its peak until the 1600s. It is made up of striking and grappling strategies, and prospered since the people were not allowed to bring weapons. It evolved into a way of protection through hand to hand combat, where even larger and heavier foes could be conquered by somebody smaller. At some point, this martial art style was being used by the police and the military.

The martial art form that means the practice of gentleness can be spelled Jiu Jitsu or jujitsu. In this art, you can defeat your foe by way of leverage and proper timing. You'll be able to stop your enemy once you are able to grab on to them and carry out a couple of strikes. In Jiu Jitsu, you'll also learn to become relaxed and focused as well learn how to guard yourself. You will also learn the importance of being diligent, efficient, yielding and knowing when to resign yourself. You'll see that various schools will teach particular facets of Jiu Jitsu in depth like specific spiritual or philosophical ideas, healing methods like massages or using certain types of weapons.

Judo and a few other kinds of martial arts all were derived from Jiu Jitsu. Although it has been compared to freestyle wrestling, Judo has many of the methods found in Jiu Jitsu. Its focus is on techniques of self defense, where you throw your enemy off balance before doing a throw. Aikido is just one more that comes from Jiu Jitsu, and it takes the force used by the enemy, and redirects it using hand techniques. When the enemy is on the ground, hold techniques that are crippling may be used until there's a surrender, and if not their elbow joint can be dislocated or they can be rendered unconscious.

Jiu Jitsu isn't a sport like karate or tae kwon do so you won't ever see any Jiu Jitsu competitions. You will find there's Brazilian form of Jiu Jitsu, which is a sport and has contests, but it was adapted from Judo. There are actually various big tourneys organized by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation, which is the major governing body for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Jiu Jitsu is a style that is rather old, but a lot of its techniques can be seen in other fighting techniques. You will notice it being utilized by fighters in mixed martial arts competitions like the popular Ultimate Fighting Championships. The four time winner, Royce Gracie employed many of the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu strategies to win the titles.
