To Remove Or Not To Remove Skin Tags: Issues To Be Addressed

By Thomas Petrek

People who happen to have skin tags on various parts of their bodies often have to make the tough decision on whether or not they want to have the tags removed. But to reach a decision on whether you should remove those skin tags or not, there are points that must be gone through carefully. Let us try to see what those specific concerns or issues are. We will also be seeking to figure out the relevance of these considerations.

If you are going to try to make a decision on whether you will remove your skin tags or not, you have to first consider if the tags are highly noticeable. If for instance, you have developed a tag right under your eyelid, and you have noted a trend where people you meet tend to focus more on the tag (or where they end up being distracted by the tag), you may be justified in seeking to have it removed. But you can ignore the skin tags if they are not causing you any discomfort and they are kept hidden in some obscure part of your body.

The next issue you have to confront is whether or not the skin tags are having a negative impact on your overall appearance or they are so ugly they are causing such distractions. You will be justified in wanting your skin tags eliminated if you feel that the skin tags are not at all complimentary to your appearance. But you have to be objective about assessing the real effect of the skin tags on your looks. You could actually have a situation where the tags are, in fact, enhancing (rather than messing up with) your aesthetic appeal.

Here's the third consideration: if you were to have your skin tags removed using a certain procedure, how much pain will you experience? Skin tag removal procedures are, in general, invasive. Thus, pain is part of the deal. How is your tolerance of pain? Try to weigh that with your desire to be skin tag-free and you'll get your answer.

Fourthly, in deciding whether or not to undergo skin tag removal, you need to figure out whether or not you are ready to deal with the risks associated with skin tag removal procedures. Sometimes, the sites where openings are made to remove the tags may end up being entry points for infections. You may also react badly to the anesthesia used during the procedure. You also have to consider the risk that you can develop scars after the procedure and they'd be harder to get rid of. Basically you will have to decide if you are willing to take on all those risks just to be free from skin tags.

Finally, in deciding whether or not to have skin tags removed, you need to figure out whether you can bear the cost associated with skin tag removal procedures. If you can bear the costs, and you think that the benefits of skin tag removal are worthwhile then, by all means, you should have the tags removed.
