Apart from the patents' values, companies may want to research on prospect infringers. These may be companies who are trying to outdo them. They can be prospect buyers of their patents. There are also several ways available in which you can sell your patents. One of which is through litigation. If you find out there are infringers, you can target them to buy your patents. You can also get assistance for indirect licensing in which a third party will be needed. Participating in patent brokers sales can also be beneficial.

There are some companies though who want to do hands on selling. That is why instead of relying on third parties, they use their own patents to develop new products themselves. Companies needing help on this commercialization procedure though can call certain experts. Assistance from more experienced companies can be useful for novices in monetizing patents.

Determining prospect buyers is indeed a must to make the process successful. Aside from finding out who your infringers are, you need to know certain things about these prospect buyers. Get an idea on how actively can they be involved in the monetizing, and if they will be willing to take the risks involved. Set aside a budget for your campaigning activity too.

It is never easy to engage in patent monetization. But then again, if done right, it can guarantee a lot of benefits. For novices though, hiring the right third party assistant would be advisable.
