How To Avoid Procrastination As A Freelance Writer

By Wanda Albert

There are times that anybody would rather do anything than what they are currently working on. As a freelance writer this can be deadly. It cuts down your productivity and stops you from earning the money that you could be. The problem is that the Internet is always at your disposal so it makes it easy to quickly nip on your Facebook page or check what your follows are up to on Twitter. It makes important to find out how to avoid procrastination as a freelance writer.

Procrastination is when you put off the work that you need to do in favor of something else. Sometimes the other thing that you choose to do could help with earning money but most of the time it does not. Sometimes this can arise from writer's block, which you will need to find a way to get over before you can move on.

As a freelance writer you will be working from home and for yourself. It makes it important to set your own schedule and your own goals. You will also need to give yourself some time off so you do not over work yourself. Get a diary and set clear dates when you will not be working on. Make sure that you stick to these days and spend some time out of the house.

You will need to set a schedule that you can realistically stick to. Make a note of your working times and your days off. This will help you organize any work that needs to be done. Let your family know about your new schedule so they will know when you will be free or when they should let you work. Remember to put in some breaks and take time away from the computer.

Deadlines can be a problem because some can be a few weeks or months in advance. It can be very easy to keep putting something to one side in favor of other jobs because you think you will have time at a later date.

This is the biggest pain because you will usually find that the deadline creeps up on you without you realizing and then you are pushing yourself to get everything done. Meeting your deadline comfortably goes together with your scheduling.

Distractions around the home will also not help you with your procrastination. This can be difficult if you have children around the home or a partner who also works from home. You will need to set your own space to work in and clear out anything that could possibly stop you from doing work, such as the TV or a games console. These are things you can use when you are on your break to help you with how to avoid procrastination.
