An Essential Insight Into Breeding Attack Dogs

German Shepherds are canines of exceptional physical strength and size. They originated in Germany and were at that time mainly used as herders.

But, its characteristic traits of strength and obedience were noted by the law enforcement agencies. It was soon inducted into the police force to provide personal protection to patrolling officers. They proved to be very helpful, especially at night time, and became good companions for the police officers.

As a result of the discovery of the breed's traits in Germany, other countries such as Austria, Hungary, and France also placed them into their police forces. In fact, great amounts of money were allotted to the breeding and training of German Shepherds.

These dogs are capable of protecting individuals if they are provided with the proper training. They are used to maintain public order and sometimes are also trained as attack dogs. They are trained certain methods, the bark and hold, to name a few that these canines use when needed. But opposite of what they are used for, these dogs are really very good-natured, unaggressive and obedient to their owners.

However, when they perceive a threat they will become very protective of their companion. This characteristic has been audaciously cultivated amongst the true bloodlines and has been kept specifically for guard dogs and police dogs.

Not only are some of the cop dogs sworn in as police officers, they are given their own badges. If they are murdered in the line of duty they are offered a police funeral. Moreover, in order to protect their lives most of the dogs are equipped with bulletproof vests. In case the dog is taking care of its puppies or becomes old or ill it is retired. It is a crime in almost all areas to kill or harm a police dog, and a person can be prosecuted on these grounds.

German Shepherds were originally used by the German Army as attack dogs. American soldiers were so fascinated by their ferociousness and the way German Army brutally used them in the First and Second World Wars. These facts about the breed were taken to America which made these dogs gain popularity. After the First World War, Rin Tin Tin a dog of this breed, was imported from Germany. Later on, the use of German Shepherds as attack and guard dogs in other countries started to become prevalent.

Since German Shepherds has a very sharp sense of smell, they were utilized during the war to find out army men who were missing. Numerous search and rescue operations were made successful by these canines. They were also great base camp guards during that time.

This dog, having a keen sense of smell and hearing, would notify the patrolling officers well in advance of any approaching threat. In order to safeguard them from the attackers some guard dogs have even been given bulletproof vests.
