Learn Some Youth Group Lessons That Work

By Courtney Willard

Youth groups are intended to support teenagers and their social needs while at the same time giving the church a chance to teach these teens the basic practices and principles of Christianity. Teenagers are able to discover God's manifestations in their lives through effective and well planned youth group lessons. Activities involved in these sessions are connected and open for the involvement of all teenagers present. Additionally, these teens are given a chance to be open with one another and are also driven into God's reliance. Below are some of the lessons that have been found to work effectively.

The first lesson is claiming God's love. Make the teenagers present understand that the love of God is unconditional to all humans. Some of them will have difficulties accepting this, especially those that have had tough lives but make sure to explain that at times people are not open to receive this unconditional love.

Teaching these teenagers on having hearts that are always grateful is yet another crucial lesson. Be sure to teach them that being thankful to God and other around them is a virtue worth embracing. Let them know that practicing this character is important even when things are not going the way they expect them to.

Another lesson is to teach the importance of actions to the teens. Let them know that saying things is not enough. It is important to put what you say into actions. Here, you could use the old saying that 'actions speak louder than words'.

Another important lesson is that sin blinds human beings. Let the students understand that sin keeps them from doing the work of God. It blinds them from God's goodness and makes them servants of earthly pleasures.

Among the effective youth group lessons, the last is helping the teenagers to identify desires, situations and habits in their lives that make them trip- also referred to as their 'IT'. These include gossiping, envy, alcohol and sexual addictions. You should encourage the teenagers to share their IT, and explain that God can set them free from theses things that hold them back.
