Effective Manner Of Safeguarding Yourself In The Evening

By Jon G Youngie

I started living on my own inside an apartment one year after graduating from college. I selected a place near the firm and would walk towards work. I decided to look for discount self defense spray in order that I could safeguard myself whenever I go out.

As a college friend said to me once, pepper sprays are non lethal weapons that provide an extremely agonizing sensation of burning on the target's skin and in the eyes, enlarge the mucous walls and add issues to respiration. They do not provide long term physical damage however disable the target for a few minutes, just enough time for the victim to escape or look for help.

He recommended that I obtain a tiny pepper spray since it would be light and compact and it could be concealed easily within my hand. This allowed me to have the element of surprise as the assailant would never find out that he was about to be sprayed until it would be too late.

I considered keychain pepper sprays since they were really small and could simply be connected to my keys, bag or belt. I could carry one anyplace without letting anybody know that I was carrying a personal defense weapon.

So, I went with a 1/2 oz. Pepper Shot with color injection-molded holster. It is a 10% pepper spray which has 2 M SHUs (Scoville Heat Units) and is made from fine grains that have shown to be more effective than the coarser-grained defense sprays. This can shoot about 6 to 10 one-second bursts within a range of 6 to 8 feet.

It was a little after 2 AM when I started to walk back home from an office celebration. Out of the blue, a guy with a crowbar in hand obstructed my path. He wanted my wallet.

Rather than giving him what he desired, I gave him what he deserved - pepper spray inside the face. I then ran towards the nearby drugstore and asked for assistance.

Two male attendants grabbed the person and detained him right up until the police came. Who would have thought that some discount pepper spray could help save a person's life?
