How to Avoid Negative Individuals

By Hal Neff

There is the classic saying, "Birds of a feather flock together. " The reasoning behind this is we often become like the people we all hang out with.

If you are around "cannot, should not, and do not" individuals, then you'll constantly be discouraged and disheartened. Instead, encircle yourself with visionaries and people who are able to inspire and motivate you so you can, should, and do take action.

* Pursuing your intuition could be an efficient way of filtering out negative people initially upon meeting them.

Here are some body language signs to look out for when you meet new individuals:

* A sick or uncomfortable feeling forms in the pit of your stomach.

* The hair around the back of your neck stands on end.

* Your skin crawls and you also feel jumpy and adverse to touch.

* Your shoulder muscles knot up and your throat and chest constrict.

* You experience a sense of pressure, agitation, or darkness.

* You feel physically, psychologically, or emotionally drained after meeting the person.

These indications might be your body's means of telling you to stay clear of this person. You can leave their presence becoming depressed and discouraged because all you have heard is complaining.

Naturally, this sucks the energy right out of you, but you can learn how to read these signs early on and you will save yourself from getting involved with a negative individual. These individuals are toxic and will poison your mind with their negativity.

Seek Out Individuals with Optimistic Attitudes

Sometimes you may tell someone is positive just by their outward appearance or the way they conduct themselves. Walking confidently with their head up and even smiling are indications that a person is in an optimistic mood.

A few other indications of an optimistic individual are more intuitive, such as:

*You have a feeling of familiarity - as if you have known the individual for a long time.

* You really feel relaxed, calm, and safe.

* You breathe simpler.

* You lean forward instead of crossing your arms defensively and withdrawing.

* You're at ease with the other individual's touch (hug, handshake, etc.).

* You leave their presence feeling energized and alive.

Just like negative people put out a negative energy, positive people have positive energy. These individuals are nourishing and supportive. Your body can pick up on this and alert you or motivate you based on the situation.

How do we begin finding these positive individuals we want to connect with? Much of the above responses are easily felt in our day-to-day interactions.

But there are positive actions we may take to align ourselves with positive people:

* Locate a local neighborhood event, club, or group where individuals challenge themselves and encourage their members to be better individuals. They are going to assist you to set goals for yourself and then achieve them.

* Take part in online forums or arrange your own positive mentoring group. Sometimes it is impossible to completely avoid certain negative people (perhaps a boss or family member), but you can limit your connection with them and look for positive role models elsewhere.

* Utilize your optimistic support system to prevent the negative individuals in your life from getting the best of you. Count on your family or friends when you really need to vent to eliminate your negative emotions.

The choices you make in life are yours alone. It is totally in your capacity to choose who you are friendly with and whether you want to live a happy life or be miserable.

When you feel too much negativity, take control of your life and make some changes to eliminate the negative sources. This will probably take some time but creating these changes will help better your daily disposition and remind you that great things are ahead.
