Fire Alarms UK ' Protect Yourself Against A Ravaging Fire

By Jason Williams

In the UK fire alarms and fire prevention programs are controlled by the Fire Precautions Act. It's not only large public buildings that should have fire alarms though ' any ordinary household without a fire alarm installed on its premises runs the risk of ruin sooner or later. Fire alarms for residential purposes are not very expensive. It's therefore unthinkable that someone can go without one and knowingly risk all his assets being destroyed by a fire.

A fire alarm can be either automatic or manual. Automatic systems are equipped with smoke sensors which will immediately active an audible signal if the system picks up excess smoke. More expensive systems also come fitted with heat detectors ' they will set of a siren or other signal when it picks up a sudden drastic temperature increase.

Manual alarms have to be activated by human intervention. Often there is a glass panel which you have to break to set off the alarm. This is to prevent accidental activation. In this case the alarm serves to warn people of a fire that has started and to encourage them to leave the building immediately.

The most common way a fire alarm will notify the inhabitants of a building about a fire is by transmitting an audible signal, such as a siren. In large factories and office blocks alarm systems sometimes make use of pre-recorded voice alarm technology. The system could even be programmed to tell workers in different parts of the building exactly what they have to do in an emergency situation.

In the United Kingdom many fire alarm systems are directly connected to the local fire brigade. This is an extremely important feature. In the disarray that breaks out after a fire alarm has been triggered, it could easily happen that nobody informs the fire brigade of the fire ' with understandably disastrous consequences.

An extremely important aspect of a business's fire management policy is to make sure that escape routes are open at all times. If you are a hotel, supermarket or night club owner, you are no doubt aware of the numerous cases where fires broke out in similar institutions and people could not escape because the emergency doors were locked. This always cause many people to die and result in charges of criminal negligence.

Fire alarms UK can be found in all price ranges. For the home owner there are simple systems that are not very expensive, yet can prove invaluable in case of a fire. Fore business owners there's a huge array of models and system to fit all budgets and requirements.
