Safety with Child Gates

By Pierre Levingston

Small children can be hard to keep track of every moment you are home. A baby gate can help keep your children safe. They can be placed to keep your little children out of the more dangerous parts of your home, such as stairwells.

Most baby gates use a self-locking latch mechanism. The locks are childproof, but should be easily opened by adults. They are a great alternative to a playpen, which babies quickly outgrow.

There are a few different options available for baby gates. Baby gates can be stationary. They can be mounted directly in to the wall and are meant to keep smaller children in one location.

Stationary baby gates can come in a variety of styles and colors. They are made out of sturdy wood or metal. Baby gates can easily fit in with the design of your home and personal style.

Stationary baby gates are meant to be placed in the wall for a while. When your children outgrow the gate they can be removed easily by unscrewing it from the wall. A drawback is that they do leave screw holes in your home, so it is good to keep that in mind when deciding on your baby gate.

If you would rather have a baby gate that is meant to be inter-movable they also have those types of gates too. These types of gates are usually used in doorways. They use pressure instead of screws to keep the gate in place.

Baby gates on the go are not recommended to use in between soft or hollow wall constructions. They wedge themselves into the empty space and can leave big holes in the wall if not placed in the right spot. They shouldn't be placed in between stairways.

Baby gates can be a great investment for the safety for your children. They allow your children more room than a playpen can. Use baby gates so you know where your smaller children are and keep them away from harm while they are playing by themselves.
