Carbon Black Alternative Meets Needs

By Nina Gallagher

A carbon black alternative may be needed if manufacturers prove unable to meet the levels of this material required. There is growing use by the rubber products industry which has long been a large use of this substance. There are as well a growing amount of ways that this product is being used and in the composite form it comes in.

The fast evolving nano industry for instance requires a type with ten times the pigment. It has to come from combustion of ten times as much of the regular stuff. What is ended up with is a product that can fasten to other elements so well that engineers can perform the procedure down to a level of molecules. They make it function like a robot busily carrying out some task. While it sounds high tech, the carbon in this process is taken out of recycled tires.

Rubber items need this substance or they will quickly dissolve from high temperatures and wear. This gives rubber the added ability to shed heat from itself. If it could not, tire treads couldn't last, nor would a radiator hose. Thermal damage would destroy both.

The auto market makes up the largest consumer for this and is one of the big reasons why alternatives are being sought. There is so much growing demand for cars throughout the world. It is hard to keep pace especially given the fact that most of this is not being taken from certain heavy varieties of oil.

Coal tar is an attractive substitute. All kinds of organic matter has been used for production that involves firing the material in some fashion. The result spreads itself over anything it is rubbed against. Artist used burned wood or charcoal in their renderings. Bones and other materials have been employed as well. A variety of substances are currently being tried, and there will be more in the future.

Rubber acquires its dark hue because this product has been installed during the processing for its positive qualities. To overcome this dark color requires masking materials. Light pigments are put in to make the shade different.

Carbon black alternatives are being tried all the time. New substances will be tried in new forms. Emergent industries will require producers to come up with increasing sorts of variation. The existing uses will also force manufacturers to find new sources for this product.
