Sewing and Stitching now made easy

By Jeffrey Raudzus

Sewing is about creating something original. There have been so many times that you went to the store and in that visit you saw something that you liked but you wished it was a little differently made.

So why not make something on your own. This is possible with the help of sewing.

Sewing is defined as a craft that is used for minor things like stitching a button to major things like creating a dress.

There is a complete use and dependency on two most important elements. They are the needle and the thread.

There are broadly two types of sewing:

1. without the machine
2. with the machine

Depending upon what is it that you want to make will determine the technique? If you want to stitch a button, then even hand sewing, i.e., without the machine is also possible. But at the same time for things like stitching a dress, machine would be the best alternative.

It is quite a technique that has been used since quite ancient times. Sewing gave birth to inventions like the weaving machine, the spinning wheel, etc.

Usually this term sewing is associated with making some clothing or household things and designs. But actually this term is much wide than this. It encompasses the other things like bookbinding, shoemaking, sail making etc.

Sewing is quite a hands on process and you will not even realise as to how quickly you learned it.

The first thing would be:

1. First thing would be to become familiar with all the sewing terms. This way you will become comfortable with the entire process and the learning would be fast.

If you are planning to buy some book as a guide, then it might also use the technical language of sewing. So it is important to understand this technical language and make the learning as fast as possible.

2. You cannot learn sewing unless you have a sewing machine at your place. So the second step would be to go to the market an order a sewing machine for you.

There are plenty of options available even on the internet. Just see the options, compare them on aspects like the brands, the price, how user friendly it is etc. Accordingly make the choice.

Most of these machines will also have a user manual with it. This will make the learning better and machine specific.

3. Another thing that has to be kept in mind once you have a machine is that you will have to take good care of the machine if you want it to last for a long period of time.

Before starting with any working on the machine, go through the manual carefully. All that you have read just keep it in mind and then follow it.

The manual will have section regarding how to keep the needles, how to keep the machine when you are not using it, etc. Just follow that blindly, you do not have to use your rationale here.
