Examples of NLP Techniques

By Emma R. Edwards

The term NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming and refers to an approach that focuses on every individual's limitations. Through a series of techniques based on researched psychological models, these individuals are taught how to overcome their life limitations, whether they are personal (phobias, stress etc) or for business.

Because there is a different NLP technique to deal with all types of limitations, we take a look at a few of the most common ones. The Fast Phobia Cure is a relatively clear technique which is used to disassociate a fear or phobia with reality. The Collapsing Anchor technique is used to remove the unwanted 'anchor' in life with one that is wanted.

In the modern day many feel like they are out of control and cannot manage, which is where the Getting Things Done trance technique comes in to help get individuals back in the driving seat of their lives. This technique is also used to help those who have a fear of failure or even success. Similarly, the Gratitude Inventory helps those who have this fear or lack of control to help focus on what is currently positive in their life, benefiting both physical and mental well-being.

The Making Difficult Decisions technique can be used alongside many other ones as it helps individuals make difficult decisions better by focusing on every aspect to make an informed choice. Finally there is the Meta Model, one of the first NLP technique created which is used to bring forward the unconscious limitations into the conscious so that they can be addressed.

These are just a few of many different types of NLP techniques used, but it helps gives an insight into how many there are, how they can help and how they also all work together. Although not all psychologists and scientists believe in the effectiveness of NLP, there are plenty of individuals out there who have found these techniques to improve their overall well-being.
