Anyone who keeps up with current events around the country and even the world knows that home security is a crucial aspect for staying safe. No matter who you are or where you live, you must take steps to keep yourself safe, even in the supposed safety of your own home. Your home can be a secure place if you make the effort to create that security.

There are several things you can do to increase the level of residential security at your home, and doing so is smart. The FBI tells us that a property crime occurs every three seconds. For this reason, you must take responsibility for your safety. This article will help you understand a few ways that you can be as safe as possible.

Some home safety tips have to do with common sense actions. For example, keep your doors and windows locked!! Over one half of all burglaries are accomplished because the criminal was able to gain access to the home through doors or windows that were left unlocked! Locking your doors and windows takes just a few seconds, but it could keep you from being burglarized.

The more eyes that are watching your home, the better. That is why neighborhood watches are so important and helpful for reducing crime. When you have several neighbors who are familiar with you and your habits and the car you drive, you will be much safer because they will realize when there is something suspicious going on.

Deadbolts are extremely important for keep yourself safe in your home. The typical locks that doors have when you buy them are not very strong. You are better off having deadbolts installed on your doors. Also, have tempered glass put around your front door, because crooks will be less likely to break through it to unlock your door.

The outside of your home is important to, when it comes to keep criminal out. Do you have large shrubs or trees planted up next to your home? If so, you are making it easy for burglars. They can climb trees to get into upper story windows, so you should consider cutting them down. Large shrubs make it convenient for them to hide behind as they are breaking into your lower floor windows. It is wise to remove these as well.
